One of the dreadful and awful diseases, Leishmaniasis or Kala-Azar is a chief health problem occurring in certain parts in the country. It is caused due to the transmission of intracellular protozoan parasites of Leishmania genus namely Leishmania Donovani, Leishmania Infatum and Leishmania Chagasi. The process initiates with a bite of an insect, the Phlebotomus sandfly and Lutzomyia sandfly which are usually found in tropical regions around the world. The adult female fly is the main bloodsucker. There are mainly four types of leishmaniasis occurs in human, out of which Kala-Azar is most severe with mortality rate of 100 percent, if not cured.
However, the disease cannot be identified for the two initial weeks, as the signs and symptoms are visual only after some time. Frequent weight loss, bouts of fever, enlargement of liver and anemia are the major signs. The disease is widespread among several countries except Australia and mainly in Nepal, Brazil, India, Sudan and Bangladesh. Treating Kala Azar was a challenge in the earlier days, but a number of effective measures today are taken to cure the sickness permanently.
Kala Azar treatment involves the use of Sodium Stibogluconate and Antimonial compounds. Miltefosine Impavido and AmphotericinB has proved to be clinically tested and found effective for resisting the disease, however, its use is restricted due to toxicity. Anti-Leishmaniasis treatment for Kala Azar also includes FungisomeTM, which has proved advantageous over other conventional regimens in India. Although, AmphotericinB has been used worldwide and formulated as the liposomal but found less effective when compared with Fungisome.
It has been clinically tested and studied in Leishmania Donovani infected animals. The dosage could be prescribed by the medical practitioners depending upon the stage of disease. It is required to test and ensure the clearance of parasite before concluding the dosage. More vaccines are expected to be found in the near future. We provide FungisomeTM in different composition as it is considered as the best treatment for Kala Azar till date.
